St Mark's C.E Primary School

Life in all its fullness

'I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.' Philippians 4:13

As a Church of England Primary school, Christian values permeate everything we do.

Our values of Peace, Trust and Fellowship guide us daily in our mission to see that all pupils reach their potential. Collecting together for a daily act of worship creates a sense of belonging and gives an opportunity to develop inner stillness and thought.

Worship is an important and valued part of  our school day at St Mark's Church of England primary school. All children will gather as a school community in an act of collective worship each day from Monday to Thursday. On Friday, we enjoy collective worship where we also celebrate the achievements of children whereby a special mention certificate is awarded to one child from each class. This certificate will link to one of our school's values; Fellowship, Peace or Trust.Worship gives us time to praise God as Christians, reflect on our lives and think about the wider world and all of the diversity found within it.

Our school prayer for the sick

Father God,

We lift up all those who are facing illness. We ask that you bring healing, comfort and peace to their bodies. Calm their fears and let them experience the healing power of your love.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

St Mark's Guardian Angels

In September 2021 we developed a Guardian Angel system in school. This system is where our year 5/6pupils support our youngest children in settling into worship . The year 5/6 children are given an EYFS/year 1 child and become their guardian angel. They collect them on their way to collective worship and guide them to the school hall. Starting school is a daunting event in a small child's life and being a Christian school, our year 5/6 children set an excellent example showing the younger children how to show the Christian Values we are proud of here at St Mark's.

This initiative was very successful and we have continued to use it ever since.

Pupil voice:

This is what year 5 and 6 said...

"Being a Guardian Angel is a challenge that is very important to our younger children."

Our year 1 and year R children feel so comforted and we love to see them with a smile on their face."

"We always make sure the younger children are ready to start worship."

"The experience was great I enjoyed when they tugged your hand and walked into worship."

This is what year 1 said...

"I liked them helping me to sit quietly."
"They helped me make right choices."
"They were a good friend."
"It made me feel comfortable."
