Armitage Class - WEEKLY LEARNING

Week Beginning 6th June 2022

English - We have been looking at an adventure story called Kidnapped and writing a letter from the main characters point of view.

Maths - We have been looking at time- we have been reading quarter to and quarter past, also telling the time to five minutes.

Geography - We looked at a map of the school and used a key to show how the land had been used.

DT - We have continued to make our own kites and we are look forward to trying them out soon!

RE - We have been looking at the five pillars of Islam and what they mean to Muslims. 

Week Beginning 23rd May 2022

English - We have been reading and writing Spring poems. 

Maths - We have looked at telling the time on an analogue clock.

Geography - We have been looking at maps of the local area and discuss land use. We also looked at we we are in the world.

We also had great fun at our Jubilee celebration where we thoroughly enjoyed singing to our grandparents and they enjoyed joining in with the hand jive. 

Week Beginning 16th May 2022

Year two's have been working hard doing their SATs this week. We are all very proud of them, as they have worked really hard.

We have also been doing a Jubilee project, learning all about the Queen and her family. We have looked at a timeline of her life, researched facts about her life and what she does.

We had another great outdoor learning session, where we looked for bugs, made soup in our mud kitchen and even built a horse jumping fence and pretended to be horses jumping them. (Take a look at our slide show of pictures on our class page)

RE - We looked at the five pillars of Islam and discussed the meaning of the first pillar Shahada.

Week Beginning 2nd May 2022

English - This week we have been practicing our grammar, punctuation and comprehension skills.

Maths - We have been practicing and consolidating our arithmetic skills.

Computing - We have been looking at how to to take pictures and whether landscape or portrait is better for certain pictures.

Outdoor learning - We had great fun making dens, creating menus and making food in our mud kitchen and working as a team.

Week Beginning 18th April 2022

English - This week we have been using descriptive language to describe a spring picture.

Maths - We have been looked at equivalent fractions and counting in fractions. 

RE - We started to look at Islam and some of their beliefs.

DT - We had great fun flying a kite on the school field and looking at the structure of a kite.

Maths  - We have been looking at fractions of quantities. 

English - We have been discussing and planning our recount of our Easter holidays.

Geography - We found out what tectonic plates and how they form mountains and volcanoes.

PSHE - We looked at families and discussed how all families are different.

Week Beginning 28th March 2022

Maths - We have started to look at unit and non-unit fractions this week.

English - We have enjoyed writing our newspaper reports this week. We think we are all fantastic reporters!

Art - We used our paint mixing skills to create a whole class cityscape scene for our display. It was nice to work as a team to create a whole class piece of art.

Geography - We looked at the structure of a volcano and discussed how they erupt and what happens.

RE - We thought about Easter and how Christians celebrate in their communities.

 

Week Beginning 21st March 2022

English- We looked at speech and how to punctuate it, ready for our quotes in our newspaper reports.

Maths - We continued to look at shape this week and how to draw and make 2d and 3d shapes. We enjoyed making 3d shapes and writing shape stories for our maths day on Wednesday.

PSHE - We looked at how to have respect for our own bodies and others.

 

 

Week Beginning 14th March 2022

We had a great start to the week with science day and had lots of fun learning about friction. We were very proud of ourselves for the questions and ideas we came up with. . The best bit was testing the surfaces using the toys cars and ramps! We enjoyed using the computers to create a bar graph of our results.

English- We have started to plan our own newspaper report. We have been thinking about who we are writing about and describing them.

Maths - We have been measuring the perimeter of 2d shapes.

Art - We have been painting and looking at creating different shades of the same colour by mixing paints.

Music - We have been practicing some action songs.

Week Beginning 7th March 2022

English- We have been looking at newspaper reports. We picked out the features and discussed headlines.

Maths - This week we have been looking at 2d and 3d shapes. We identified the properties of the shapes.

Art - We have been using charcoal. We practiced creating different shades.

PSHE - We are looking at growing up and have been learning the scientific names for parts of the body.

French - We have been naming and saying the parts of the body in French.

Week Beginning 28th February 2022

English - We have been writing our own instructions text. We also described a setting using a picture. 

Maths - We have had fun with describing turns and position this week.

Geography- Our new topic is Volcanoes and we have been looking at the structure of the Earth and watching videos of different types of Volcanoes. 

We have also had our World Book Day, which was great fun. The focus of the day was reading and we really enjoyed, dressing up, listening to all the different teachers reading a story and most of all sharing our favourite books with our class and the older children in our school. Week Beginning 21st February 2022

English- We have been reading 'How To Wash A Whoolly Mammoth by Michelle Robinson and Kate Hindley'. We have looked at the features of the books and how the instructions are laid out. 

Maths - We have been comparing and adding lengths and heights.

DT - We have been making and evaluating our light pictures and really enjoyed showing them to our parents. (Please take a look at our pictures on our DT page- located by the learning tab and then curriculum DT)

Science - Year two started looking at materials and year three have started to look at rocks.

Week Beginning 7th February 2022

 This week we have been taking part in our Rochester Riverside Project and we also had our Online Safety Day.

  • We have been learning all about the key features of a castle and what they are for.
  • We explored the job of an archaeologist and found out that a Roman wall was discovered on the Rochester Riverside school site.
  • We thought about where things like our school, Rochester Castle, our parents and ourselves fit on a timeline. We used language and dates to describe the positions on the timeline.
  • We looked at the painting 'Castle and Sun, 1928' which is an abstract cityscape painting by Paul Klee.  Poster Castle and Sun 
  • We enjoyed creating our own versions based on the colours of the new Rochester Riverside school.   
  • We also created our own coat of arms for the Pilgrim Academy Trust Family, making sure we represented all four schools.  
  • We also had our online safety day, where we thought about how we keep ourselves safe when using devises to go on the internet.

Week Beginning 31st January 2022

English - We have been planning our own adventure stories. Our stories are based on the book 'The Stone Age Boy'

Maths - We have been interpreting pictograms and block charts this week.

History - We have been investigating what we know or can assume about the past from artefacts and images.

RE - We explored the Bible passage - Luke 17: 11-19 and thought about what we are thankful for.

Week Beginning 24th January 2022

English - We have been making predictions about a text and retelling a story in our own words.

Maths & Computing - We have been reading and drawing tally charts and pictograms.

History - We have been looking at Stone Age cave art.

Science - We are continuing to look at food groups and what healthy eating means.

Week Beginning 13th December 2021

We really enjoyed welcoming our parents in to celebrate our Christingle service this week. We had great fun singing, dancing and making Christingles. We found the lighting of the candles very special and it was nice to share that with our parents and carers. 

Week Beginning 6th December 2021

English - We have been writing letters to Santa to tell him what we would like and why we deserve it.

Maths - We have been subtracting using the base ten and place value counters to help us exchange the tens.

Computing - We had another fun lesson using Bee-bots and Pro-bots to learn about algorithms and sequence.

Week Beginning 29th November 2021

English - We have been writing and editing our own Haiku poems.

Maths - We have been learning how to carry a number when adding two or three digit numbers.

Computing - We had great fun this week, learning how to create a sequence of commands to make the Probot draw a square.

RE - We looked at what Christians can learn from the Christmas story.

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is - Emmy for her hard work and positve attitude. She is a great role model to her peers.

Week Beginning 22nd November 2021

English - This week have been writing our own Autumn poems. We looked at Haiku poems and practiced counted out the syllables to help us.

Computing - We have started a unit on programming. We had a go at programming the 'probots' to move forward and to do a turn. It was great fun!

Maths - We have been looking at subtracting using column method.

French - We learnt how to count to ten.

Geography - We have been looking at human and physical features of some countries in northern Europe.

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is - Lilly for being an enthusiastic learner this week. Her listening has shown that she has been ready to learn. 

Week Beginning 15th November 2021

Maths - This week we have been looking at addition using column method. 

English - We have been reading and sharing Autumn poems and discussing why we like them.

RE - This week we looked at the Sandro Botticelli's 'Mystic Nativity' We discussed the characters and their part in the Christmas Story.

French - We looked at different ways of saying goodbye.

PSHE - We thought about and discussed bullying as part of our anti-bullying week. We designed our own odd socks and enjoyed playing a sorting game discussing different scenarios involving kindness.

Week Beginning 8th November 2021

Maths - We have been subtracting bridging ten. 

English - We have continued to learn about instruction texts and have looked at imperative (bossy) verbs. 

RE - We have been looking at the birth of Jesus and how people in the Christmas story knew he was a special baby.

Music - We have been practicing two-part singing and have also started a xylophone course, so that we really understand how to play them.

Computing - We made our own digital music. (See videos below)

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is - Connie for her hard work with reading and her positivity with her own learning journey.

Week Beginning 1st November 2021

Maths - We have been adding two digit and one digit numbers crossing the tens. 

PE - We having started dance this term, we have based our dance on Diwali and began to learn dance moves to represent the story of Rama and Sita. 

Geography - We looked at maps and located the countries that are in Europe.

Computing - We used Chrome Music Lab to explore changing pitch and duration. We tried to create animal noises using different durations and pitch.

In English this week we have been looking at instruction texts. We followed some instructions and discussed what was good about them and what could be improved. (see our some photos below)

For art this term we are looking at sculptors. This week we looked at Marc Quinn and recreated his hand sculptures using bread.

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is - Brendan for his hard work and determination with his learning. He really is on a positive learning journey.

Week Beginning 18th October 2021

Armitage class have had a great term and have worked very hard. Here are a few of the things we have been doing this week.

PE - We played some games where we had to listen carefully to instructions and practise our reaction times. We had great fun and enjoyed playing in teams.

History - We learnt about the well known Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun and recorded some of the things we found out.

Music - We enjoyed using our new glockenspiels and singing as a class.

DT - We had a great time learning about fish and why it is important and then making and eating a fish salad. 

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is - Finley for his positive attitude to his work and for how he has built his perseverance up over the term.

Week Beginning 11th October 2021

Armitage class have been working hard this week. Here are some of the things we have been doing.

English - We have been learning all about adjectives, we identified them in sentences and then we used them to describe objects and also a scene. We published some of our writing for our class board.

Maths- We have been adding and subtracting tens form two and three digit numbers.

Science - Year two were looking at microhabitats, and how many minibeasts they could find in different habitats. We used our maths skills to gather and record our data.

In PE this week we were showing how to start and finish a sequence so that our performance was polished and professional. We were very proud of ourselves.

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is -Leo for all his hard work with his reading and writing. He is flourishing in his reading and this is helping him with his writing too.

Week Beginning 4th October 2021.

Armitage Class have enjoyed this week, especially the Harvest Supper. Here is a snippet of what we have been learning this week.

English - We have been writing an information text all about lighthouses.

Maths - We have been doing some problem solving, using the skills we have learnt over the past few weeks.

PE - We had a different PE lesson this week due to the hall being used so we did some team games and some chair exercises, which the children really enjoyed.

RE - We created some pictures to show the different ways that we learn from and about God. The pictures are going to be used to create a collage for our display.

French - We have been practising how to ask people "How are you?" and then responding with the answer.

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is -Betsy for her hard work and enthusiasm in her lessons, especially phonics.

Week Beginning 27th September.

Armitage Class have had another great week at school. We have been learning lots of new things this week.

English - We have been doing some research into lighthouses. We started by creating our own questions that we wanted to research.

Maths - We have been counting forward and back in twos and fives.

Computing - We are learning how to use Google Classroom, we had fun changing the colour and size of our writing.

PE - We were learning how to do different jumps and how to land safely.

History - We were history detectives this week and were looking at artefacts and answering questions about what they were and what they were used for. 

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is -Lucas for his great attitude to his learning and his enthusiasm in all areas of school life.

Week Beginning 20th September.

Armitage Class have been working very hard this week. Here are a few things we have been doing.

English - We have been planning and writing our own stories this week based on The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch.

Maths - We have been comparing and ordering numbers.

DT - We have been making our own coleslaw called Armitage Salad. (Take a look at our class Gallery to see some pictures)

French - We can now greet people and share our names.

PE - We really enjoyed practising different types of rolls this week. We practised forward rolls, side rolls and forward roll into a standing position. (see photos on our class gallery)

 

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is - Bella for her enthusiastic learning. Always trying her best and persevering when it is difficult.

Week Beginning 13th September.

We have had another good week of learning this week. 

English - We have been writing and publishing some character descriptions. 

Maths - We have continued to look at place value and the value of the digits in a number.

DT - We tasted and evaluated different types of salad.

History - We looked at where Ancient Egypt fits on a world history timeline.

PE- We continued to practice our balancing skills this week, we were balancing in pairs and created a sequence of balances in groups. 

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is - Noah for his enthusiasm for learning since coming back and always being respectful to others.

Week Beginning 6th September.

We have had a great first week back. Here are some of the things we have been doing.

English- We have read and retold the story of 'The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch' we have created our own word mats to help us with our writing. 

Maths - We have been looking at place value this week and practising partitioning numbers and learning how to read and write two and three-digit numbers.

PE - We are doing gymnastics this term and our theme is 'Under the Sea' so we have been practising our balancing skills. 

French - This week we practised different greetings for different parts of the day.

Our Vision Award Winner This Week is - Henry for his enthusiasm for learning this week and being respectful to others.
