Eccles to Whatman Park
Oliver Comber’s Easter Holiday bike ride
Oliver Got his first ever bike for his 4th Birthday in May 2020, he very quickly got to grips with it and within a week was joining the rest of the family on some lockdown bike rides. Here is a picture of the first time we took the route the cycle club did, past St Mark’s School to Peter’s Bridge in May 2020.
Oliver now loves being out on his bike and we try and get out together as a family every weekend when the weather is nice. On Friday 2nd April 2021 we decided to cycle from our house in Eccles to Whatman park near the river. Here is a map showing the route we took –
The route is 10 miles long in total (there and back). Oliver was very proud of himself, he managed to cycle the whole way to the park, had an hour play in the park and then cycled the whole way back. We took some photographs of his journey: -
We started the bike ride by cycling through Eccles Park to Bull Lane. Once on Bull Lane Oliver did some cycling on the road, he made sure that he stayed to the left and his Dad stayed behind him to make sure he was safe.
Oliver carried on his route through Aylesford and onto Forstal Road, where we cut down an alley way by the garage and came out to the river path.
This was a lovely route; we followed the river all the way to Whatman park. On the way Oliver spotted some fun graffiti under the bridge.
We then saw some sheep in the field from Kent Life, Allington lock and lots of boats as we passed the Malta.
Then we made it to Whatman park! This route took us 50 minutes each way (it could be done a lot quicker with longer legs) but we are all very proud of Oliver and we all love being out on our bikes together.
