Hello Hairy Maclary Class. As some children are returning to school this week, we wanted the home learning activities to reflect what we are teaching in school. Below are some of the tasks we will be completing in school. If there are any questions, please get in touch - either by leaving a message with Mrs Farrow and we can call you back or via the school office email.


Below is a handwriting pack that focuses on letter families, allowing children to practise letters with a similar shape, along with words from the high frequency word list for Year 1.


Please continue to listen to your child read. The online books on the Active Learn site are suited to their phonic ability if you have made your way through your bookshelves at home. Logins were text to you a few weeks back but get in touch if you need them resent or any help navigating the site.

The children are grouped for phonics therefore each group will be completing different tasks linked to their sounds. Below are some tasks based on different sounds, a set of review sheets and a new set of spellings. There is also an overview of the stages that sounds are taught in which may help with choosing a sound to concentrate on.



This week, our writing tasks will be based on the book 'The Tiger who Came to Tea.' If you have the book at home, you could read it to an adult. If not, there is a video below.

Here are some tasks to complete:

  1. Write a shopping list for Sophie's mum following their visit from the tiger.
  2. Design and write an invitation inviting the tiger to come for tea.
  3. Create a menu from the café that Sophie visits.
  4. Complete a book review on the story.




This week we are reviewing reading and writing numbers. The expectation for Year One is that children can count, read and write numbers to 100 in numerals and read and write the numbers 1 to 20 in words and numerals. The activities below are to meet the needs of different stages that children are at in meeting this expectation and you can choose the ones that suit your child. There are also some place value exercises in comparing numbers.


We will be looking for different trees in the school grounds and identify them using the tree hunt sheet below. Following this, we will sketch and label leaves from different trees.
